| Brentwood School Big Band was formed in 1983 by David Pickthall, who had the year before returned to his old school as Assistant Director of Music (becoming Director in 1987), and in the twenty-three years since has given hundreds of concerts in England and Europe. In 1998 the Big Band toured Prague with the Brentwood School Symphony Orchestra. In 1999 they took part in the Summer Music Festival in Siena, Italy, repeating this in Summer 2003 and Summer 2005, playing to enthusiastic audiences numbering several thousands. Summer 2001 saw them in Southern France. Members were also involved with a visit to Alabama USA in the year 2000. Annual visits to Nuremburg, Germany, have taken place for over a dozen years, from which has developed a strong association with the Big Band of Wolfram-von-Eschenbach-Gymnasium. Alongside the concert schedule, seven CDs have been produced to date. Further recordings are planned for this year – the School’s 450th. Members of the Big Band are aged from 13 to 18, and all play two or more instruments under the direction of four full-time and twenty visiting music staff at Brentwood School. |
